WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man pleaded guilty Monday in connection with the death of a man in Haysville in September.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office said James Standefer pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder.
He was initially charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A preliminary hearing for Standefer was scheduled for Nov. 25 in the Sept. 7 shooting death of Jesse Rau, 43, of Haysville.
The shooting happened just before 3 a.m., when emergency crews were called to South Broadway Avenue near 79th Street South after a crash detection alert was sent to Sedgwick County 911 dispatch.
