NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - States may be out millions of dollars after being caught up in the middle of a court battle over SNAP benefits.
The Associated Press reports that some states acted quickly last week to follow a court order to pay out full SNAP benefits to their recipients. A handful dispersed federal dollars, while others used state money, with the impression that the federal government would reimburse them once SNAP funding was restored.
But on Friday, the Supreme Court paused that order, leading the Trump administration to say those states’ actions were “unauthorized” and the federal government is no longer responsible for reimbursements.
Instead, it’s urging those locales to “undo” their payments. But with the money already dispersed, that leaves one big question: how?
