HEDGESVILLE - Three local teams - Hedgesville, Martinsburg and Musselman - begin their quest for a state title today, as the Class AAAA state volleyball tournament gets underway in Charleston.

It starts at the top with the defending state champion Eagles, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, who open things up against No. 8 Parkersburg. Hedgesville (39-3-3) is on quite a roll entering the tournament, having won their last . Their last loss came on Sept. 6 against Oakland Catholic, Pennsylvania, in an out-of-state tournament.

Because of that winning streak and being the defending champs, the Eagles have had the proverbial target on their back all year. It's no different for the state tournament.
