SHENANDOAH JUNCTION—Each week, from Memorial Day to Veterans Day, reporters on The Journal staff rotate highlighting the stories of local veterans as part of the paper’s Unsung Hero series. At the conclusion of the series run, each veteran is invited to attend a recognition ceremony where he or she is presented with a plaque and a Quilt of Valor, if the veteran has not previously been awarded a quilt.
The 2025 recognition event was held Nov. 1 as those veterans able to attend gathered for brunch at Fellowship Bible Church in Shenandoah Junction. A dozen of this year’s veterans were able to attend where they met each other, enjoyed a meal and the violin music of local violinist Sam Lake. Each veteran then received the Quilts of Valor made especially for each of them by members of the Shena
