This is Nurse Practitioner Week in Newfoundland and Labrador and the Registered Nurses Union is marking the occasion by highlighting and celebrating the role of nurse practitioners in providing accessible, high quality health care across the province.

The official proclamation was signed late last week.

RNU President Yvette Coffey says nurse practitioners are able to diagnose, prescribe and manage chronic conditions.

She says if the province wants to build a stronger more sustainable public health care system, then it must invest in the expansion of nurse practitioners.
