ROCKLAND -T he Knox County Jail is going to stop housing long-term inmates.
They will be forming a partnership agreement with Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset to house inmates and the Knox County Jail will be repurposed into a holding facility.
County Administrator Amber Christie says the costs of running the jail have escalated in recent years.
She says the total expense is now projected to exceed the base assessment limit by nearly 1.2 million dollars in 2026.
Christie says, at the same time, anticipated jail operations funding has decreased.
