ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque voters will return to the polls next month for a runoff election to determine who will be mayor and represent city council districts 1 and 3.
Why is a runoff election happening, and what is it?
The runoff election follows the Nov. 4 local election and is taking place because no candidate in those races secured more than 50% of the votes, as required under the city charter.
A runoff election is held between the two candidates who received the most votes during the regular election, ensuring the winner has a 50% majority rather than just the highest percentage in a crowded field.
Important Dates: • Runoff Election Day: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025 • Early Voting: December 1-6, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at early voting convenience centers across Albuquerque.
