CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) continues to play a vital role in supporting food access across the state as part of Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s initiative to address the impact of the ongoing lapse in federal SNAP funding.

Since launching operations on Oct. 30, 2025, the WVNG has distributed more than 900,000 pounds of food to residents in need across 45 counties through partnerships with Facing Hunger Food Bank, Mountaineer Food Bank, and local pantries.

At the governor’s direction, approximately 235 service members were activated under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Jim Seward to assist with food deliveries, warehouse operations, and staffing local pantries.
