The first snowfall of the season has arrived in the Erie region, prompting the City of Erie's Streets Department to mobilize road crews to manage the winter conditions.

The snowfall began on Sunday evening, and crews have been actively working to ensure roads remain safe and passable. The Streets Department, led by Bureau Chief Billy Wegelin, has deployed plows and salt spreaders to tackle the snow and ice.

"We had seven salt runs running last night and we have all our spreaders on our tandems ready if it does come down heavy," said Billy Wegelin, Bureau Chief of the Streets Department in Erie.

Crews are scheduled to work around the clock in three shifts to keep the roads clear. All plows are mounted and ready, and employees are on standby until spring due to the early snowfall.
