WHITERIVER, Ariz. — The death of a 16-year-old girl reported earlier this month near the community of Whiteriver is being investigated as a homicide.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs and White Mountain Apache Tribal police are continuing to investigate what happened to Challistia Colelay before her body was discovered near Knots Landing on Nov. 3.

The agencies said they're working to bring closure to the girl's family and "justice to those responsible."

In late October, family members posted on social media requests for help in trying to locate Colelay.

Investigators have not disclosed any other information about the teenager's death. Officials are encouraging anyone with information about Colelay's death to call the BIA hotline at 1-833-560-2065.
