LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Workers at the Rio Hotel and Casino have voted to authorize a strike, citing what they call unfair labor practices by property owner Dreamscape, an affiliate of Hyatt Resorts.

In a Monday news release, members of Teamsters Local 986 said the decision follows nearly two years of stalled negotiations. The union represents close to 100 employees at the Rio, whose contract expired in April 2024.

“The Rio can afford to meet the demands of our members, but management is refusing so they can put more money in their own pockets. It’s wrong, and the Teamsters are not going to let them get away with it,” Tim Vera, President of Local 986, said.
