DULUTH — A group home employee with a revoked license allegedly drank alcohol and smoked marijuana before causing a crash while recklessly driving at more than 100 mph with two clients in his employer’s van.
Michael Edward Rahja Jr., 19, of Rice Lake, had a blood-alcohol concentration of nearly three times the legal limit after Thursday’s wreck at Martin and Jean Duluth roads, according to a preliminary breath test cited in a criminal complaint filed Monday.
Rahja is accused of crashing into a car that he was attempting to pass at a high rate of speed. Multiple witnesses had called 911 beforehand to report his dangerous driving, and one of his passengers said he had been intoxicated and driving erratically for two hours.
