On Friday (Nov. 7), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began a 4% reduction of flights at 40 major U.S. airports , which is set to go up to 10% by next week. The government shutdown has forced the FAA to make the decision amid widespread air traffic controller (ATC) shortages. And over the weekend, passengers already experienced chaos in many airports, particularly the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

According to the FAA's travel advisory on Friday , SFO had some of the longest delays. But while the FAA links it to staffing shortages, a spokesperson for the airport clarified that the disruptions were not entirely shutdown-related. Ahead of the flight cancellations, San Francisco International was reported as one of the least affected airports during the shutdown. H
