ROCKFORD, Ill. — A Rockford woman has died after a car accident on I-39.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 23-year-old Taylor Rockwell of Rockford was driving south on I-39 when she lost control of her vehicle. She crossed into the northbound lane and was hit by a semi-truck.

Illinois State Police and Cherry Valley Fire Department came to the scene. When they arrived, they found Rockwell unconscious. She was brought to a local hospital.

While at the hospital, Rockwell was treated for her injuries. Despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead on Nov. 9 at 11:35 a.m.

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office said Rockwell's cause of death was an anoxic brain injury from the crash.
