A West Australian wind surfer has survived an attack by a great white shark near Prevelly on Monday night.

The encounter was captured on a local surf camera, with foil board rider ‘Andy’ seen riding with several others at 5.45pm before his board was suddenly sucked under the water, followed by fierce whipping and splashing on the surface.

Andy later told onlookers on shore that he came face-to-face with the shark, before clambering onto his sail to get out of the water.

“I fell onto it, it was wrapped around me. You’ve got two leashes, you’ve got a leash around your waist and one on your wrist, and it was like in me, and I was like punching it,” he said.

“Then I had my sail, and I jumped up onto my sail just to get out of the water, and then I started yelling for help.
