DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — A spot in the Dakota Bowl means a little more for one North Dakota school.
Devils Lake schools canceled classes Friday, Nov. 14, to watch their Firebirds play in the Division 2A championship game and give students and staff enough time to make the two-and-a-half-hour drive to cheer on the team.
School Superintendent Ned Clooten says there will be a big wave of support for the Firebirds, who haven’t made the championship game since 2010.
“Extracurriculars are an extension of a classroom. We say that all the time, right? So when we've got kids and we've got staff in a community that want to go down and support them, we don't want to put up barriers,” Clooten said.
The Firebirds play Minot North at the Fargodome on Friday afternoon.
