KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Monday marked the Marine’s 250th birthday, and a celebration was held at the UT Veterans Success Center.
The birthday party let newer and older Marines make new connections and strengthen existing ones.
“Anybody looking in can see how we connect even after different periods of service or how we connect after never having served together. All we need to do to know is that we’re both Marines and that’s enough,” said Veterans Academic Coach and Engagement Coordinator Juan Cordero.
The celebration included a tradition where the oldest marine present shared a piece of cake with the youngest. Cordero said tradition is something that means a lot to the Marines.
“It’s ingrained in us since boot camp, you know, like we learned some of the songs and some of the stories.
