Aussie shoppers are foregoing large weekly grocery shops in favour of smaller, more frequent ones, according to new supermarket data .
Dr Jessica Pallant, lecturer in Marketing in RMIT's School of Economics, Finance and Marketing, tells nine.com.au a reason for this changing trend could be that larger weekly shops "may not be as affordable for some consumers, but they could equally be looking for value in alternate shopping options".
Financial comparison website Finder found the average weekly grocery bill in Australia is $209, an increase of $19 since August last year.
That is in addition to previous years' increases.
