That dead dog in Naugatuck? Not even real.

Concerned residents in one Connecticut town can breathe a sigh of relief — that “injured dog” spotted lying motionless in a local field isn’t hurt, abandoned, or even real.

According to Naugatuck Animal Control, the furry figure that’s been alarming passersby at Peter J. Foley Field is actually a fake coyote — strategically placed to scare off birds.

Over the past few weeks, officials said they’ve received “numerous calls… about an abandoned dog, injured dog, and now [Nov. 4], due to the wind, a possible deceased dog,” according to a Facebook post from the agency.

“Rest assured, the coyote on Peter J. Foley is fake and doing his job to keep the field free of birds!” the department said. “But today, due to the wind, he’s taking a break.”

The post ended with a thank-you to the community for their “continuing support and ‘see something — say something’ diligence.”
