DONNELLY, Idaho — Three months after the Rock Fire burned 2,800 acres in Donnelly and portions of Tamarack Resort, crews are clearing debris to create new ski runs from the charred landscape.
The resort is adding 60 acres of ski terrain on land where the fire burned in August, transforming destruction into expanded recreational opportunities.
"It started really close to our summit lift," said Kara Finley, chief operating and financial officer at Tamarack Resort. "There were a lot of burned trees, and we wanted to get those down before the snow flew."
Logging and clearing crews arrived within days of the fire to begin removing debris from the existing Bliss Run. While clearing the area, resort officials identified opportunities to create two new runs south of Bliss Run.
