An influencer has been fined over $800 after lighting an illegal fire at a World Heritage Site in Queensland.

The woman was fined $834 by Queensland's Department of Environment for lighting a fire on the island of K'gari, formerly known as Fraser Island.

Fires are only allowed to be lit if in Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) provided fire rings at the Dundubara and Waddy Point camping areas, and only when a total fire ban is in place.

Senior Ranger Chad Hoult reminded visitors to the popular tourist location, including influencers, were not exempt from rules on the island.

"Disregarding these rules poses a serious threat to K'gari's delicate environment, unique wildlife, and rich cultural heritage," Hoult said.
