A counter-extremism expert has warned the NSW government there is no "legislative fix" that will fully combat the rise of neo-Nazi groups in the state.
After a neo-Nazi rally took place outside NSW Parliament last weekend, Premier Chris Minns said it was likely NSW Police needed more "legislative powers to stop this kind of naked hatred and racism in Sydney streets".
On Saturday about 60 men dressed in all black stood outside the Macquarie Street gates displaying a banner targeting "the Jewish lobby" and chanting antisemitic slogans.
Both the state's police commissioner and premier confirmed they were not briefed about the planned protest — which was allowed to go ahead — blaming an internal communication error.
