The drought has ended. Charli xcx has dropped her first music since releasing her seminal album Brat (and the remix, of course) and it’s got us talking.
The track, called House, is part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Emerald Fennell adaptation of Wuthering Heights. You know, the one starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Cathy , and the one that sent the internet into meltdown when the very horny trailer dropped earlier this year.
Is the track similar to Brat? In a word, no.
There is some autotune – a Charli staple, and something that she’s called an “instrument” of hers before. But whereas Brat was very much an electronic-pop album, House is something that feels very much its own beast. In other words, Charli is entering her moody goth era.
