COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Sheriff Lee Foster discussed his decision to activate tornado sirens Saturday night after no official tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service.
The sirens sounded after torrential rains and hail hit the county around 6 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service had issued a thunderstorm warning with a tornado possibility, but officials say no tornado warning or watch was issued as radar showed no indications of tornado activity.
Judy Wicker was outside feeding her baby goats when the storm hit.
“It was scary. The noise was so loud and deafening. It sounded like a bunch of kids with hammers or rocks or something throwing onto this tin building,” Wicker said.
Wicker said she heard the sirens go off after the storm calmed down.
