MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Fighting stopped at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918, officially ending World War I.
One year later, Congress officially recognized Nov. 11 as Armistice Day.
After World War II, veterans asked for the day to be renamed to honor all who have served.
In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the bill rededicating the day to honor all veterans.
Every year at 11 a.m. a presidential wreath is laid on The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
