TAMPA -- The Rays were busy during the first official week of the offseason, and president of baseball operations Erik Neander will surely stay active with the GM Meetings taking place in Las Vegas this week.

Last week ended with a couple big moves involving two of the Rays’ longest-tenured and highest-paid players: the call to exercise Brandon Lowe’s club option for next season and their decision to decline closer Pete Fairbanks’ option, making him a free agent.
