A voter turnout of 59 per cent was recorded by 5 pm during the polling for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election in Punjab on Tuesday.

Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, with strict security measures in place, according to officials.

Vote counting is scheduled to take place on November 14.

As of 1 pm, the voter turnout was 36.62 per cent.

Of the total 1.92 lakh voters in the constituency, 23 per cent had cast their ballots till 11 am, officials said. The 46 micro observers appointed by the Election Commission are continuously making rounds of the polling stations. Poling remains peaceful, with no incidents of violence reported so far.
