LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Due to residents who rely on federal SNAP aid impacted by the federal shutdown, Lakewood yesterday (Nov. 10) announced a citywide relief program.
“This is an unprecedented government shutdown, so it’s important for us to look for ways to support members of our community,” Lakewood Mayor Meghan George said.
“I’ve been impressed with friends helping friends, neighbors helping neighbors throughout this process, so we’ve been working to reallocate some human services department dollars and also working with our partners to identify funds to directly help those individuals who rely on SNAP benefits.”
The city -- along with community groups Lakewood Foundation and the Lakewood Community Services Center -- next week will provide more than 1,000 Lakewood SNAP recipients with
