A recall has been issued for Italian parsley because the item is potentially contaminated with salmonella.
Pacific International Marketing ("Pacific") recalled 474 cases of bulk Italian Parsley after being informed that a sample taken on October 6 tested positive. The Food and Drug Administration said the product should no longer be available directly to the consumer, only if the product is frozen.
No illnesses related to the bulk parsley have been reported at this time. The FDA noted that Salmonella can cause severe and sometimes deadly infections in young children, frail or older individuals, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
