SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Leaders from across the state are speaking out about a recent court ruling that could shake up Utah's congressional representation.
On Monday, Nov. 10, Judge Dianna Gibson ruled against the Utah state legislature, ruling that Map C violated Utah's citizen-passed anti-gerrymandering law known as Proposition 4. Instead, Map 1 was chosen, arguing that the previously chosen map was an "extreme partisan outlier."
The plaintiffs, League of Women Voters of Utah, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, and a Millcreek couple, challenged Map C after lawmakers approved it in early October. Gibson had ordered the legislature to redistrict Utah’s current congressional lines after finding that the legislature violated Utahns’ rights to alter their government by overturning Prop 4
