N.Y. (WBNG) -- BUMP NY is spearheading an initiative to secure livable wages for nonprofit human service workers across New York state.

The organization has partnered with CUNY’s Institute for State and Local Governance to conduct a study on the challenges facing the human services workforce. This sector includes essential workers such as home health aides, childcare workers and nursing assistants.

BUMP NY is pushing for a statewide wage floor that would increase wages to $29 per hour.

“More than 100,000 people will be lifted out of poverty, it will generate $23 billion in economic activity across new York and in Binghamton alone, 1600 people will be lifted out of poverty and it will generate around $36 million worth of economic activity,” President and CEO Melanie Hartzog said.
