CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health says the makers of a baby formula are doing a voluntary recall.
A recall was announced Saturday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of certain lots of powered infant formula made by ByHeart.
The recall follows a multistate outbreak of infant botulism. There have been 13 cases in 10 states. None have been reported in West Virginia.
“Protecting the health of West Virginia infants and families is our highest priority,” Acting State Health Officer Dr. Mark McDaniel said in a news release. “Parents and caregivers should immediately stop using any recalled ByHeart powdered formula and follow FDA guidance for checking lot numbers, safely disposing of the product, and requesting a replacement.”
