This year, there will be no sweat on San Antonio’s (uni)brow. The annual Frida Fest is moving to Maverick Plaza at La Villita on November 15–16, a cooler new setting for the Alamo City’s colorful homage to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo

At its core, Frida Fest is a celebration of trailblazing women. According to a release, the event pays tribute to the “spirit embodied by individuals such as [Chicana scholar] Gloria Anzaldúa, [Costa Rican-Mexican singer] Chavela Vargas, Selena Quintanilla, and Frida Kahlo.” To that wit, the name serves as an acronym for “ F abulous, R espectful, I ndependent, D etermined, and A ssured.”
