The Government has unveiled plans to phase out animal testing in science across the UK.

The new plans, detailed by Science Minister Lord Vallance today (November 11), will deliver on the Labour Party's manifesto commitment, which said it would "partner with scientists, industry, and civil society as we work towards the phasing out of animal testing".

Animal tests are currently still used to determine the safety of products like vaccines and the impact chemicals like pesticides can have on animals, humans and the environment.

The roadmap vows to phase out tests as soon as 'reliable and effective' alternative methods can replace them.
