According to a recent report in this newspaper, around 44 GW of renewable energy capacity is at risk of cancellation, because the discoms are unwilling to purchase the energy. This development casts a shadow on the growth and optimism in the sector. The year 2025 has been a record-breaking one: solar installations have crossed 125 GW, wind has reached 50 GW, and total non-fossil fuel capacity (including hydro) has hit 250 GW, or about 50 per cent of total installed capacity.
