TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the telecom and energy stocks as the price of oil moved higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 18.48 points at 30,335.11.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 239.28 points at 47,607.91. The S&P 500 index was down 6.62 points at 6,825.81, while the Nasdaq composite was down 115.58 points at 23,411.59.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.40 cents US compared with 71.33 cents US on Monday.
The December crude oil contract was up 90 cents US at US$61.03 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$6.60 at US$4,115.40 an ounce.
