A new and untested quarterback, a host of new starters and a rugged early schedule were among the obstacles facing Maury as this football season began.

Ten games later, the Commodores remain where they started in the 757Teamz football Top 15: At the top.

Domo Everette, a sophomore, has been spectacular at quarterback, and the newcomers around him have stepped in admirably for the two-time defending state champs. As for that early slate of tough games: After a 24-20 loss to Cardinal Gibbons, of North Carolina, Maury has won nine consecutive games and dominated its Eastern District opponents.

The Commodores, though, are seeded second behind King’s Fork in the Class 5 Region B Tournament — the Bulldogs’ Southeastern District slate against larger schools helped give them a slight edge.
