As of Tuesday morning, more than 1,200 flights have been canceled as the government shutdown continues to place a strain on aviation officials.
The cancellations come as the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a reduction in flights due to staffing and safety concerns. The reduction began last Friday .
On Monday, there were slightly fewer overall delays and cancellations after Sunday's spike, but weekends typically have more air travel traffic.
Among the top U.S. air carriers, United Airlines has canceled the fewest flights, while Delta Air Lines has canceled the most since Friday. On Monday, Delta canceled more than 300 flights, and on Tuesday, the airline had already canceled more than 90 flights.
