WASHINGTON — Flight disruptions across the United States are expected to worsen Tuesday as the Federal Aviation Administration increases its mandated air traffic reductions to 6%, part of an emergency plan to manage strained operations during the ongoing government shutdown.
The FAA’s order affects 40 of the nation’s busiest airports, including major hubs in Atlanta, Denver, Dallas, Orlando and Miami, and applies to all commercial airlines between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
The agency began implementing gradual cuts last week, starting at 4%, with reductions slowly rising to reach 10% by Friday, Nov. 14, according to the FAA.
On Monday, a total of 2,110 U.S. flights were canceled and over 6,800 were delayed, according to FlightAware data.
