They came together at Perrysburg’s Frank Elementary School Tuesday morning, the older ones who had fought for their country and the younger ones who have never known war.
The purpose was to enable the school’s 470 students and 21 faculty members to thank the 57 veterans in attendance for their service.
In a crowded gymnasium, students ranging from kindergartners to fourth graders recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang The Star-Spangled Banner, and read brief statements they had composed about why they are grateful to our veterans.
Answers included because they fought for our freedom, because they work hard to protect us and our country, because they work so hard to do their job, because they never give up, and because they gave us the freedom most people don’t have.
