The Federal Aviation Administration’s ordered flight reductions at busy domestic airports increased to 6% on Tuesday and are slated to reach 10% by week’s end.
Airlines already have canceled about 8,000 flights since Friday when air traffic was first cut by 4%.
San Francisco International Airport has experienced 56 flight cancellations and 28 delays, according to FlightAware. Oakland International Airport has seen 13 cancellations and three delays.
Tuesday also marks the end of the second missed pay period for air traffic controllers. It’s still unclear how quickly they’ll be paid once the government shutdown ends.
President Donald Trump has called for a $10,000 bonus to controllers who have stayed on the job, and he has suggested docking pay for those who haven’t.
