In a biting, wintry wind, one of the largest crowds in recent memory stood shoulder to shoulder in Belleville Cenotaph and Memorial Park in a Remembrance Day ceremony Tuesday to venerate the city’s lost and surviving veterans past and present.

Canada Forces members, military units and civilian organizations paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying wreathes at the stone memorial markers to honour the sacrifices made by fighting men and women though multiple wars and conflicts.

Flags were slowly lowered by the colour guard and the Last Post was played to remember the many who never came home from far-away lands fighting for freedom.
