For over 25 years, a cemetery in Upstate New York has held a Veterans Day ceremony to honor the brave men and women buried on its grounds.
But this year, a lack of funding due to the federal government shutdown has forced the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery to cancel the long-standing ceremony.
“We’re saddened to share that this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony has been cancelled due to a lack of cemetery funding and the ongoing government shutdown,” cemetery officials wrote Friday in a Facebook post .
The Schuylerville cemetery, about 20 minutes southeast of Saratoga Springs in the Capital Region , is run by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration. Like other federal administrations, many VA employees are not getting paid during the shutdow
