Guillermo del Toro’s biggest passion project to adapt a monster classic, Frankenstein , is now a global Netflix hit. The Oscar-winning filmmaker has been eyeing a reimagining of Mary Shelley's iconic story since 2008, and it finally came to fruition when the film was released on Netflix on November 7.
After waiting nearly 17 years to see his vision on screens, that patience has paid off, with Frankenstein becoming the No. 1 movie on Netflix within days. The Top 10 Global movie charts reveal that the del Toro movie dominates the list, beating out KPop Demon Hunters (#2), A House of Dynamite (#3), Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers (#4) and Shrek Forever After (#5). Additionally, the gothic monster movie debuted with 29,100,000 views in less than a week.
