The cost of living continues to drive Australians' big decisions, with more than ever turning to the "side hustle" to boost their income.
New research from Westpac found that 55 per cent of Australians were either currently earning money from a side hustle, or actively considering starting one.
The survey found 27 per cent were actively earning through a side hustle or micro-business, and a further 28 per cent were considering trying the same in the next 12 months.
"The side hustle economy is now firmly re-shaping how people work and earn," Westpack national general manager SME and small business Anthony Mathews said.
"And it isn't just a big city phenomenon. Australians in regional areas are just as innovative and engaged in side hustles as those in our capital cities."
