The sun has been riddled with bursts of energy shooting off its surface over the last few days. The most recent burst of energy may cause a severe geomagnetic storm here on Earth.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued a Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

SWPC says that at least three Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have shot off the sun and are heading for Earth. The CME detected last night and peaked at 5:00 a.m. today was the strongest and most energetic, fastest moving of the three CMEs, according to SWPC.

SWPC expects this fast moving CME to catch up to the other CMEs and hit Earth with their combined energy over the next three days.

At best, this means we could have widespread northern lights over at least the northern half of the U.S
