AVONDALE, Ariz. ( KPHO /Gray News) - A high school band member was shot and killed while she slept in her Avondale, Arizona, home over the weekend.
Police said 17-year-old Rhiana Kemplin was shot inside an apartment just before 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Rhiana later died at a hospital.
Rhiana was looking forward to graduating high school and studying cosmetology. She planned to continue her education at Arizona State University and play in the university’s band, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family.
A Facebook post by Agua Fria High School said Rhiana was a senior in the school’s band and had “an infectious energy and passion for music.”
No arrests have been made in connection with Rhiana’s death, but police said one person has been detained and is in custody on unrelated
