BOSTON — Three nights ago, Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov delivered a massive hit on Maple Leafs center Scott Laughton.
With Laughton carrying the puck up the boards in his own end, Zadorov pinched and laid a massive body check, causing the forward to depart the ice with an upper-body injury.
Toronto took exception both during the game and after it, as Bobby McMann fought Zadorov immediately and the Maple Leafs were critical of the hit after their 5-3 loss. The league didn’t take issue, however, as Zadorov was neither penalized for the hit nor fined.
At Tuesday’s morning skate in Boston, Berube still wasn’t thrilled when asked again about the hit.
“Nobody would be happy with that,” Berube said. “It’s a tough hit. But it is what it is.”
