James Morey, a beloved Carey School teacher, coach and husband and father, died Nov. 1 in a drowning accident at the age of 55.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Carey, where Morey served in several leadership capacities.

Students, colleagues, friends and family shared through smiles and tears anecdotes of Morey’s legendary sense of humor and his love of making the people around him laugh.

“My dad was a very tenderhearted, kind and humble person,” said his daughter, Bailie Aldridge. “It didn’t matter who he was talking to or what room he stepped into—he always brightened someone’s day.”

Born in Idaho Falls and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, Morey and his family moved in 2010 to Carey, hometown to his wife, Jan Kirkland Morey.
