Former U.S. Navy Captain Marty Sattison photographs a newly-wrapped Blaine County Sheriff’s Office patrol car unveiled on Monday during a ceremony proclaiming that the week of Nov. 10-16, 2025, is USS Idaho week in Blaine County in honor of the USS Idaho, a new nuclear-powered submarine set to be commissioned in 2026. The ceremony, held the day before Veterans Day, also celebrated the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday and recognized veterans and active military service members. The patrol car has been dubbed the “Gem of the Fleet,” a nickname shared with its marine counterpart referencing Idaho’s official state nickname, the Gem State. Blaine County Patrol Sgt. Allen Compton, who served in the U.S. Army, will be the patrol car’s designated driver.
